Real Life Characters for Hire in Boston

Party characters are our most lead-time-sensitive booking and the popular ones get snapped up fast. Eight weeks ahead is genuinely worth aiming for — specific characters in specific costumes have limited availability, and the experienced performers who really sell the role (the ones who stay in character with a room full of overexcited 5-year-olds) get booked up first. The further out you can lock it in, the better your pick of character and time slot. That said, last-minute character bookings happen and we’ll always check what we can do. We’ve pulled off Boston parties on a couple weeks’ notice plenty of times, especially for less in-demand characters or off-peak days. Spring and the lead-up to summer break are the toughest stretch — those are the peak birthday months across Greater Boston and the popular characters book out earliest. December also runs hot with holiday-themed character requests. If you’re flexible on which character or open to weekday or Sunday slots, we can almost always make it work.

If your first-choice character isn’t available on your date, we’ll get in touch with the alternatives that are — we’d rather find you a great option than disappoint a birthday kid who was expecting Elsa and got Anna instead.

Our characters bring a proper hour of entertainment, not just a drop-in. The visit starts with a grand entrance and meet-and-greet with the birthday kid, followed by photos with all the little guests. From there, the character leads simple games and activities suited to the age group — for younger kids (2–5) that means sing-alongs and gentle interactive play, for older kids (6–10) it’s more structured games and party moments. The character stays fully in role throughout, and the whole visit is paced to keep every child engaged.

It depends on the character. Most of our princesses prefer not to travel in full costume — it preserves the magic for the kids and the character arrives looking flawless. For these bookings, we’ll need a small private room at your venue (a bedroom, office or bathroom works) where the performer can change, and they’ll arrive 15–20 minutes before the start time to get ready. Once they step out, they’re fully in character for the whole visit and won’t break the spell in front of the kids.

Character visits work brilliantly for kids aged 2 to 10. Younger kids (2–4) absolutely adore meeting their favourite character in real life — expect wide-eyed wonder, shy cuddles and photos they’ll remember for years. Older kids (6–10) love the interactive games and getting to chat with the character one-on-one. For teenagers or very young toddlers under 2, a character visit isn’t usually the best fit — get in touch and we’ll suggest something better suited.

Yes — in the booking form you can add face painting, balloon art, party games or a magic show alongside your character visit. These run as separate services with their own entertainer, so you’d typically have the face painter or balloon artist working as kids arrive, the character visit as the main event, and a magic show or games as a grand finale. Pairing services is one of the most popular setups for bigger parties and makes the whole afternoon flow naturally.

If an outdoor party gets rained out on the day, we’ll happily reschedule your character booking at no extra charge. Just let us know as soon as you can and we’ll find a new date that works. For indoor parties, rain doesn’t affect us — you’re fully covered either way.
